Humans are untrustworthy of stray dogs. Many of these canines have been abused by humans, so they flee anytime anyone approaches them. This is why saving them is difficult.
Miles, a stray Great Pyrenees, was exploring the streets of Buttonwillow, California, near Bakersfield. He was extremely cautious around humans and was quite excellent at avoiding capture. Whenever animal control authorities tried to corner and capture Miles, he would always find a way to escape and flee.
Megan Allen, an animal rescuer, learned about Miles and was determined to save him from the streets and give him a permanent home. So she traveled two hours from her home in Los Angeles to Buttonwillow to save Miles.
Megan saw Miles lounging on the grass in the shade after a long trip. Unfortunately, she was unable to locate Miles on the first day. Miles let Megan approach close to him to grab some treats, but as soon as Megan showed him a leash, Miles immediately shunned her.
Megan decided to appeal for assistance to save Miles. The fire crew volunteered to assist, but Miles was quite the escape artist. Eventually, a man named Danny Spanks offered to help.
Danny is also an animal rescuer with much experience rescuing stray dogs. Danny got Miles into a fenced-in area with a gate, which turned out to be a dog park. Danny closed the gate when Miles placed food within the confined space.
Megan was thrilled when Danny got a leash on Miles. But unfortunately, Miles was immobilized by dread and had to be dragged into Megan's car. Megan brought Miles to a puppy daycare shortly after rescuing him, where he could recover.
Miles' personality emerged after experiencing human love for the first time. He began requesting attention from his foster mom, playing with other dogs, and being like a dog again. Here's a video of Miles' rescue and the committed folks who made it happen.
