It’s unclear what terrible motivation drove someone to abandon this mother dog and her puppies in a sack on a deserted dirt road late last month. We do know, though, that compassion was the factor that carried them all to safety.
Animal rescuer Josiane Almeida of Lagoa da Prata, Brazil, was alerted to the dogs’ plight and rushed to the scene with her husband to assist. But, unfortunately, nothing could have prepared them for the situation they found themselves in.
In an online post, Almeida wrote, “Some of the worst acts of the maltreatment I’ve ever observed.” “A sick mother was abandoned in the middle of nowhere with her pups wrapped in a bag. They’ve been there for a while now.”
As Almeida approached, the terrified mother dog was naturally hesitant at first but soon appeared to realize she was there to assist. One dog stood at her side, but three more were imprisoned within the sack – a little family that had been dumped like rubbish by some heartless person.
This was when things started to turn for the better:
The mother dog looked to be suffering from an unknown health condition, and all four puppies were sickly and hungry.
But at the very least, they were now in capable hands.
After their terrifying adventure, Almeida led the dogs to her house to eat, drink, and relax.
Almeida later enlisted the assistance of her town’s veterinarian. The puppies were determined to be healthy, but their mother discovered a cancerous tumor that needed to be treated right away.
Almeida’s friends and followers came up to cover the expense of the dog’s treatment after she posted about it on social media.
The mother dog has started her first round of therapy and appears to be doing well, no doubt bolstered by the fact that her puppies are all secure and cared for. When the time comes, all of the animals will be offered for adoption into loving homes.
These dogs have a lot to be grateful for. Almeida, on the other hand, is thankful.
“This family had been suffocated in a bag and sent out to die, but thanks to God’s grace, we were able to save them! Today they get along swimmingly with me!” Almeida penned the piece. “Thank you, God, for allowing me this chance.”
