When the pandemic struck, time seemed to move slowly at the Virginia-based non-profit Lost Fantasy Rescue. Animals are rescued and adopted by the organization. Fortunately, things changed when one of their employees saw a post on social media.
According to volunteer Amanda Keerbs, someone posted that they had found a neglected puppy in a garbage bin. They agreed to take him in, and he was named Scruffy because of his appearance.
According to Sarah Dutton, the founder of Lost Fantasy Rescue, people often ignore a matted dog because it lacks the allure of a nice and clean animal. These dogs, however, shine once groomed.
No dog should be neglected, which makes Scruffy’s victory bittersweet. However, it served as a bridge for him to find a forever home. After three weeks of foster care by Keerbs, he was finally adopted by retired teacher Allyn Mitchell. But unfortunately, his new foster parent also changed his name to Teddy.

Mitchell described Teddy as her constant companion. They go for several walks each day. Because of the dog’s friendliness, she has met many other animal lovers in the neighborhood. People even dubbed him “Mr. Meet and Greet.” Aside from the dog’s personality blossoming, his physical scars also heal. He is now content, healthy, and thriving in his new home.
