Some say that dogs are just actually angels in a ‘furry’ disguise. And why not? With the kindness and selflessness they show every day, it’s getting harder and harder not to believe that they were sent from above.
This is exactly what a pensioner named Felicity Hollings, 69, who has to endure the pain of loneliness during the height of the lockdowns due to the global pandemic, believes.
Hollings was living alone at her home in Norfolk, England, but unknown to her, one brilliant opportunity will come to ease her loneliness.
One day, while browsing on her Facebook, she saw a photo of a severely neglected dog who was covered with mange and scabs, conditions that left him without air. On top of those things, the dog also suffers from being eaten alive by microscopic mites. According to Hollings, the dog’s condition was so severe that she can’t even believe that the dog was still alive.
Moved by what she saw, she donated some money to help with the dog’s treatment. But it would not be the last that Hollings would see that dog.
Thanks to the UK-based dog rescue charity Rescuing European Animals in Need (REAN), the dog, with his other canines, was rescued abroad and treated for their conditions. When the dog arrived in the U.K., she volunteered to foster the dog to help him recover from his condition. According to her, the dog just weighed 10kg when he arrived in the country, which compelled Hollings to provide all the help she can give for the poor canine.
After a week of fostering the dog, Hollings decided to adopt him. The dog was eventually named Reuben.
Every dog rescued from Romania costs ?300, and Reuben’s skin condition (which was treated in the U.K.) costs ?350. But for Hollings, these costs cannot be compared to the joy of not only having a new dog but a new companion during one of the most challenging times the world has ever seen.
Hollings gladly shared that Reuben has helped her to cope emotionally. She also added that, if not for him, she would undoubtedly feel very lonely during the height of the lockdowns. She never denies that she instantly fell in love with the dog. By discovering that he is a loving and trusting canine, Reuben would undoubtedly be a forever companion for Hollings.
Today, Reuben enjoys his life as a healthy and well-loved dog and spends most of his day cuddling and laying on his newfound forever mother.
