Esdras Andrade, a self-employed animal protector and rescuer from So Jos dos Campos, Brazil, received a video of a family of dogs on a busy road. Unfortunately, someone dumped the poor animals and left them to die. Undoubtedly, it was the ideal location for unwanted animals, but Esdras refused to let them suffer.
Instead of relaxing at the beach, Esdras grabbed his keys and drove straight to the dogs’ location. He noticed the mother dog in the middle of the road, attempting to stop traffic. She begged for help, but none of the motorists who passed by were interested enough to stop. Instead, they continued on their way, ignoring the poor dog.
Despite her apparent fear of the approaching vehicles, the momma dog stood by and continued to seek assistance. She didn’t mind her danger as long as someone decided to lend a helping hand. But unfortunately, she did not receive the help she required.
Esdras approached the puppies who were lying in the grass. He was a step away from them when the momma dog noticed him and dashed over to stop him. She didn’t realize he was there to assist her and warned him to back off.
The rescuer needed to gain the trust of the momma dog quickly. He could tell her puppies required medical attention with just one look. He also suspected something was wrong with her, so they needed to go to the vet immediately.
Esdras had to work for hours to get the mother dog and her puppies to safety. But as soon as he did, he rushed them to the veterinarian. He knew the newborn puppies needed to be seen by a specialist as quickly as possible, so he wasted no time.
Thousands of fleas swarmed the entire family. However, one puppy was significantly more infested than his siblings. He required special attention, but everyone received the care they needed.
The rescuer has taken in the mother dog and her six puppies. They will soon be available for adoption, but for the time being, they got the help of a foster home where they can stay together until they are all ready to start over.
